Purpose of the Course

The purpose of this course is to expose the students to the concepts, methods and techniques in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of development programmes.

 

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. explain the various concepts of project planning, management, monitoring and evaluation

  2. examine the benefits and challenges of community project planning,  monitoring and evaluation

  3. design and implement effective project planning, monitoring and evaluation of community development programmes

  4. apply the skills in executing planning, monitoring and evaluation  approaches

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE

 

The purpose of this course is to enable the student apply participatory development techniques and methods in community development.

 

II.        EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course, students should be able to;

  1. explain terms, concepts and approaches used in participatory development

  2. discuss the benefits of the participatory paradigm of development in civil society organizations and government agencies

  3. examine the various techniques of PRA

  4. apply a participatory governance model in developing countries

Purpose of the course

The purpose of this course is to enable the student to explore the various phases of the project to as to understand how each is conceptualized, planned and managed. It will also provide the student with detailed knowledge and skills in project management practices that ensure project success and also be able to apply monitoring and evaluation principles and tools in project management.

Expected Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course the student will be able to: -

1.       Describe the various phases of the project cycle;

2.       Analyze the place of monitoring and evaluation in the project cycle;

3.       Apply the various fundamentals of project management;

4.       Carry out project planning and implementation process.


This course focuses on issues pertaining to economic development among developing nations of the world in general and Africa in particular. A critical evaluation of the development situation in these countries as well as the main obstacles to development will be a major area of emphasis.
