This course will give you an overview of organizational communication. It will also examine the fundamentals of business writing techniques, and expose you to a variety of practical applications and uses in a variety of business environments. A successful image in written communication is essential. It requires careful construction of precise and, in many cases, persuasive information for customers, suppliers, clients, employees and management. The audience subconsciously evaluates the source of the written communication. Therefore your communicative ability; efficiency and fluency as projected in the written document, through speech and other channels are consistently being assessed.


The course is built on the premise that effective oral, written and online communication skills are an important and necessary part of successful business operations. The course therefore is tailored to impart conceptual insights and practical skills in writing for excellence in business for a variety of situations. Primarily, the course will deal with business writing skills in letters, memos, reports, minutes, proposals as well as employment and interviewing skills in the job search through applications and job interviews. It will also involve an examination of business writing skills for informing, instructing, selling, persuading, and motivating people in various business organisational settings.
