The purpose of this course is to prepare learners to identify the physical, intellectual and social/emotional development of children from conception through adolescence. The students will apply knowledge of how children develop and learn to support diversity of children and their families.This course further examines the principles of normal child growth and development from conception through adolescence.  Focus is made on physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains of development. The major theories of child and adolescent development are covered from a culturally informed, gender sensitive ecological orientation. Stages and theories of development will be reviewed from an inter-disciplinary perspective and their implications for learning and intervention explored. Cognitive, social/ emotional, play and physical aspects of development will also be examined.
