We are in a global business village where there is one marketplace and several markets. Each market differs from the rest in certain ways. Whether one likes it or not, almost all of us are part of the global economy. When you enter this marketplace, you may be working in either a multinational or local organization or even in business for yourself and will inevitably meet and/or work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
This unit introduces you, the student, to different dimensions of culture as a framework and illustrates how these dimensions can differentiate one culture from another. When these dimensions are applied to a culture and to issues that affect the workplace such as communication, negotiation, diversity, ethics and so forth they can be readily identified and provide greater understanding of why people behave as they do and how this affects business.
