Purpose of the Course

The course is designed to raise an understanding and awareness about environmental issues from a scientific point of view and to survey the effects of human activities on the environment.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the student should be able to

  1. Describe the basic facts on the environment and ecosystems;
  2. Discuss the historical background of environmental education;
  3. Outline the root causes of environmental problems;
  4. Discuss the importance of environmental sustainability;
  5. Relate environmental pollution to global warming and climate change;
  6. Describe the health risks associated with pesticides, solid wastes and how these can be managed;
  7. Discuss the importance of environmental conservation and the challenges encountered.
