This course unit provides a study of the educational implications of idealism, realism, naturalism, pragmatism and existentialism and their implication on the curriculum, teaching methods, ethics, value education, school administration, role of student and teacher and discipline as stressed by each philosophy. Attention is placed on the learner’s ability to identify and describe his or her own philosophy of education and teaching. Other issues includes:historical development of educational ideas and their influence towards the rise of modern science and technology, factors that influenced the growth of education during twentieth century, historical background on the trends and development of education in Kenya from the pre-colonial era to present
