Course Introduction – meaning, languages, nature, and division of the Old Testament; canonization; apocrypha; 7 periods of the Old Testament; historical outline of the Old Testament; God and Creation; special creation of humanity; image of God in humanity; the Fall and its consequences; the patriarchs of Israel; Moses and the Exodus; specific focus of the books of the Pentateuch; Joshua and the Conquest; Israel’s conduct in the Promised Land; period of the Judges – Samson, Gideon, Deborah; Ruth; place of women in the historical books; United Monarchy – Evaluation of King Saul, David, Solomon; Divided Monarchy & the role of Rehoboam; comparison of Northern and Southern Kingdoms; the Assyrian and Babylonian exiles; post-exilic history; The prophets of Israel, their message and application; Poetic books; Conclusion.
