The course will introduce and define key terms in the course, trace the origins and spread of Christianity and Islam in Africa. It will explore the foundational beliefs and practices of Islam with a comparison to Christianity. Moreover, it will provide an overview of the fundamental doctrines in Islam and Christianity, the basic teachings of Islam, the teachings of Christ. How Islam compares and is different from Christianity. Islam and violence/terrorism as well as a historical overview of Muslim Christian relations in Africa, the causes of conflicts between the two faith communities, inter-religious dialogue, religious fundamentalism and international terrorism in addition to other emerging issues. It will examine the impact and contribution of each in social, economic and political landscape in Africa; and the challenges facing each faith. Co-existence and collaboration between Christians and Muslims.
